The UK company behind the world’s best-selling alternative sandbag is looking for a new distributor to cover Spain and Portugal.
Environmental Defence Systems Ltd is based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and its managing director, Richard Bailey, designed the award-winning FloodSax sandless sandbag which was first sold in 2007.
Since then around 3 million have been sold worldwide thanks to its global reputation as the original and most multi-purpose alternative sandbag.
Spain and Portugal have seen heavy rainfall in recent years and it’s getting worse and worse due to climate change.
A lot of ex-pats live out there along with people from Scandinavia and other countries who will all find FloodSax ideal as a way to be ready for flooding at any time, day or night to protect their properties from severe water damage.
FloodSax are vacuum-packed so are very space-saving to store yet exceptionally quick to deploy either in their dry state to soak up internal leaks and escapes of water or, once energised in water, outside to prevent floodwater from getting in.
Lucy Bailey from Environmental Defence Systems Ltd said: “Many homes in Spain and Portugal were built before they started to have rain like they have these days so they’re not very resistant to flooding.
“That’s why FloodSax are so useful as they can be neatly stored away – perhaps in a cellar or loft – until needed and then can be deployed inside in seconds to soak up internal flooding and outside in minutes as robust and hardy alternative sandbags to stop torrential floodwater from getting in through doors or air vents.
“There is nothing like FloodSax in Spain or Portugal – it’s a unique product worldwide – which is why it would be very beneficial for a distributor in these countries to join us. We have distributors all over the world and the support we give them is second to none.”
FloodSax are unique because they work both inside and outside, unlike traditional sandbags or any of its rivals.
In their dry state FloodSax are very flat with a large surface area to soak up water so are used internally in homes, businesses, supermarkets, hospitals and other public buildings to absorb water, drips or spills, often in hard to reach places such as beneath boilers or under pipework.
They are transformed into instant alternative sandbags by simply immersing them in water which the FloodSax’s special gelling polymer absorbs and retains.
This means that in around 5 minutes they become robust sandless sandbags that can be built into protective barriers to stop floodwater from getting in through doors or air vents, can divert floodwater down drains or even stop it escaping into water courses.
The come vacuum-packed in fives with four packs in one easy-to-carry box, making 20 in all in a box.
