A performance of Dreamgirls turned into a nightmare for the Savoy Theatre after they realised it would be unsafe to go ahead.

Set in 1960s America throughout the dawning era of R&B the musical follows a trio of Chicago girls called The Dreams who sing in various competitions.

The theatre’s official Twitter account posted that due to flooding “on and off stage” at the London venue the performance was cancelled for health and safety reasons.

The statement on Twitter said: “It’s with deep regret that for reasons of health and safety tonight’s performance of @DreamgirlsLDN has been cancelled due to flooding backstage and on stage.

“All customers will be offered an exchange or refund by contacting atgcustomers@theambassadors.com or their point of sale.”

Dreamgirls will be at the Savoy Theatre until June 2, 2018.

* FloodSax sandless sandbags are ideal to soak up floods in homes and businesses. Simply put them on the flooded area and the water will be absorbed into them. They are especially effective in hard to reach places.

They also make ideal barriers to stop floodwater getting into properties.
