New TubeSax alternative sandbag designed specifically to protect doors from floodwater

The company behind FloodSax is launching a new product this autumn.

FloodSax have traditionally been one size but Environmental Defence Systems Ltd is bringing out a new product called a TubeSax which is designed specifically to protect standard doors.

It works in exactly the same way as the bigger FloodSax. The TubeSax comes vacuum-packed and to turn it into an alternative sandbag simply immerse it in water which the TubeSax absorbs and retains.

Once inflated into a ‘sandless sandbag’ the TubeSax measures 1.2m by 27.5cm and 15cm so fits snugly on a doorstep to protect the door and property from floodwater.

The TubeSax weighs 600g before it’s energised and is vacuum-packed making it exceptionally space-saving to store yet is quick and easy to deploy in an emergency.

They come in packs of four.

The standard FloodSax measures 52cms by 47cms by 17cms once it has been energised with water.

Around 3 million FloodSax have been sold worldwide since it was invented as the original sandless sandbag in 2007.

FloodSax director Lucy Bailey said: “The standard FloodSax was designed to be bigger and better than a traditional sandbag and its uniform shape makes it ideal to build into a highly effective and robust barrier against floodwater.

“The TubeSax has been designed specifically to put across a standard door to stop floodwater getting in that way.’’

In their dry state the gelling polymer in both the FloodSax and the TubeSax can soak up water dripping or leaking inside buildings to stop damage from spreading and FloodSax are used extensively like this in homes, businesses and public buildings such as supermarkets and hospitals.

They are very thin with a large surface area so can be slipped underneath leaking radiators, boilers, sinks and water pipes.

TubeSax are now being manufactured in time for the busy late autumn and winter period when millions of homes and businesses are at risk of flooding from torrential rain, storms and snow.
